Programs for 2010

All programs are FREE except as noted.

NEW Photographer’s Special - Preregister for the opportunity to take close-up photos of our bears. The keepers will arrange a variety of wild and supplemental foods in a natural setting to attract the bears. The keepers will answer questions and provide you with a safe and enjoyable experience. Wear appropriate outdoor clothing for current weather conditions. Fee is $40.00 per person.

Bear Enrichment - Watch the bears’ reactions as they discover new wild foods, and are introduced to new supplemental foods and other items.

Bear Tales - participate in animated skits, either:

How Bear Lost His Tail - children participate in animated skit
My Paw's Bigger than Your Paw - children use puppets to participate in animated skit

Crackin’ the Code - Mammal hair under the microscope. Learn the characteristics of various mammal hairs and how they differ

Intelligence and Training - Learn how intelligent bears are.  Watch bear keepers work with the bears.

Introducing Our Bears - A brief history of Ted, Honey, and Lucky—their past revealed.

Junior Biologist - Participate in a simulated den check done in the Cub Room with the Bear Center's plush bear Marbles.

Living in Bear Country - How to live, camp and hike in bear country.

Morphed 101 - A power-point presentation and hands-on look at fossil replicas.

Myth Busters - Myths and misconceptions surround the American black bear. Learn to separate fact from fiction.

Naturalist Program: Buds to Petals - Hike our nature trail with a naturalist to learn wildflower identification. Take pictures, journal, or simply enjoy the wildflower tapestry of our nature trails.

Tracking Our Research Bears - Learn how field researchers collar bears and use telemetry to locate them in the wild.

Beary Super Saturday - Children will visit a den, make a cast of a paw print, learn finger printing bears and black bear facts. Children 5-8 years regular admission.

Earth Creepers by night - Come and learn about the forest after dark. Children ages: 8-11, limit 8 children accompanied by an adult regular admission

An evening with Ursa Major - Stories of constellations, a look through a telescope and exploring the stars and planets.  Meteor shower possible. Regular admission Children and adults limit 20
